I was writing up one of my typical long-winded- but- light- on- real- content narrative posts, but you know what? I’ll spare you.

Suffice it to say: it’s been three weeks, the transmission still doesn’t feel right but it’s better, and I’m done dealing with these clowns barring catastrophic failure.

Kinja'd!!!

And the Altima I rented? It didn’t suck, although as someone who hasn’t otherwise spent any meaningful time behind the wheel of a car built in the last 8 years, my definition of “ suck” is probably different than most others’ .

Glad it’s back. I always debate picking one of these up. There’s one near me for sale right now, but in basic black. Only $15k for a 14 year Jeep with 113k on it. Ooof.

That’s pretty comparable to what I paid for mine, a little cheaper but a little more mileage.

Wish I were closer so I could take it for a spin and compare how it shifts.

If it ain’t r usty and it’s a real Ruby, that’s a good deal.

The VIN checks out to be a Rubicon. Next question would be about the rust. I’m not doing anything tonight, maybe I’ll go check it out and see.

Fo r reference, if you don't already know, rubicons 6th digit in the VIN should be a 6. Quick and easy check, you don't have to do a full blown Vin lookup.

Yep. I was looking at manual tranny FJs too, same price range, generally many more miles though.

Just check the frame out really good. A cheap endoscope (factory didn’t rust proof the inside) could save you a couple of thousand bucks if you get in there and it’s all flakey. Frame rust likes the transfer case skid and the rear control arm mounts. A clean TJ frame can be found for around $1500-$2000 but LJ frames are hard to find. Repair kits are available and, when done properly, are just fine but you want to budget that going in if it’s not clean.

Oops, didn’t realize that you posted the link. Nice! Blinker relay could easily be a clock spring issue. Check cruise and horn to confirm. WranglerTJforum is probably the best out there for good info.

Nice! Mine was in mechanical rehab  from Labor Day to almost Christmas getting the engine rebuilt, a reman transmission and the rear end rebuilt... among other things. It’s a glorious feeling to get back behind the wheel!!

I’d go crazy (and broke just in rentals). If I hadn’t spent so much on fixing this Jeep over the years , I could have easily afforded a really nice XJ as backup by now. Actually several nice XJs. Plus another LJ. And...never mind, I don’t want to think about it any more.

If you lowered your definition of “really nice” to David Tracy’s definition, then you could ( probably) still do all those.

Although touted as “bulletproof” I would not suggest anyone own a 20 Chrysler product with a 60+ year old engine without having a solid back up plan. If you owned it since new and had the whole history then that’s different but most 4.0 Jeeps have been beaten to hell and back. The “flawless” ones just have nice paint still and a good engine bay detail job.
